Projection Rooms is pleased to be screening a programme of 11 films from 'Short
Film Series' by Guy Sherwin between the hours of 12 and 4.30pm on Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st. The work is part of an ongoing film project by Guy Sherwin which began in 1975

'The series is held together by certain formal considerations: each film is three minutes long, i.e. the length of a roll of 16mm film, all films are b/w and silent, and the order in which they are shown is flexible. Apart from this there is a range of imagery from portraiture to still life to travel. The films operate on the border between movement and stillness, revealing their inner logic through an active engagement in looking.
For the exhibition I have made two DVDs from the 16mm originals, one with 5 films and the other with 6 films. Thus the connections between the films are always changing.
A DVD of 34 films from Short Film Series is in production with LUX, to be released late 2013'. Guy Sherwin

A bit about Guy Sherwin: Films have been included in 'Film as Film' Hayward Gallery 1979, 'Live in Your Head' Whitechapel Gallery 2000, 'Shoot Shoot Shoot' Tate Modern 2002, 'A Century of Artists' Film & Video' Tate Britain 2003/4. His work is
in the collections of Cinematheque Francaise, Tate Gallery, British Council, BFI, and distributed by LUX London, Lightcone Paris, Film-Makers Co-op New York and Canyon San Francisco.
Film and video by Kerry Baldry will be screening at The Projection Rooms on Saturday and Sunday 5th and 6th October between the hours of 12pm and 4.30pm.

Kerry Baldry is a Fine Artist, a graduate from Middlesex
University who went on to study film and video at Central St.
Martins. Her first commissioned film was to make a one minute video
for BBC2’s One Minute Television which was broadcast on The Late
Show - a joint collaboration between BBC2 and The Arts Council.

Since the 1990's she has continued to
make work primarily with 16mm film (edited in-camera) and more recently video and has had screenings
and exhibitions worldwide including the big screens in Liverpool, Lux
Open at The Royal College of Art, Rotterdam Film Festival. Directors
Lounge Berlin, the ICA, OUTVIDEO Video Arts Festival Russia, Casoria
Contemporary Art Museum Italy, Furtherfield gallery London, FACT
Liverpool and Welcome to the Treasuredome - a London 2012 Cultural
Olympiad by the Sea programme in Weymouth (to name but a few places).

Her work is broadly based around the
human condition - the inevitability of isolation, concerns with
meaning, freedom and mortality. Recurring major themes
and elements include identity, alienation,
anxiety, representation, mortality and memory and there is a
sustained interest in state intervention and political oppression.
These poignant and visceral films interrogate what it means to be free through the use of formality, abstraction, sound and interwoven visual metaphors. Techniques including repetition, pixilation and superimposition are employed in films such as PUNCH and BOOT in which human actions powerfully evoke relentless violence. Other films draw attention to the representation of things and have been described as ethereal, engaging and mysterious.

Her films are in the collection of The Lux, British Artists’ Film and Video Study Collection and sculptures in the collection of The David Roberts Art Foundation.
